Sustainable Happiness

Sustainable Happiness is happiness that contributes to individual, community, and/or global well-being and does not exploit other people, the environment, or future generations.

Active travel is a good example of sustainable happiness because it is light on the earth, increases personal health and well-being, and contributes to a sense of community. Dr. Catherine O’Brien, Cape Breton University, has created classroom resources for health teachers to complement active school travel.
